December – the month for twinkling lights, roaring fires and entertaining. For many newly completed self-builds, this time of year really does put a homeowner’s specifications to the test… Has your new home’s design provided adequate space for guests? Have you installed a heating system that is cost-effective to run? Did you illuminate your property to achieve that warm, winter glow?

Regardless of when you choose to embark on the design of your self-build, remember to think long-term, and to consider all the seasons. In this month’s edition, we’ve brought you some timely articles that are sure to inspire you!

On page 10, we’ve sourced the most desirable dining tables available on the market, ideal for hosting those extended family gatherings or raucous dinner parties. Meanwhile on page 14, we catch up with Will Anderson who is currently watching his property come to life with the installation of unique light fittings – chosen specifically to create that coveted warm and welcoming ambience. For those yet to select their preferred heating system, Green Living explores the benefits of biomass boilers and unveils why self-builders are increasingly specifying this solution.

In this month’s Urban Sanctuary, I managed to catch up with Paul and Tina Tann from Kent, who completely transformed a conventional 3-bedroom semi-detached property into a lavish and spacious home tailored to their passion for entertaining. Read more about this stunning renovation on page 30.
