July 2024

Welcome to the July edition of i-build magazine! This issue is packed with inspirational projects and products as well as useful advice for your self-build.

As the general election approaches, many budding self-builders and home renovators eagerly await how the elected Government will influence their building and renovation projects, with many hoping for initiatives such as a Stamp Duty holiday to rejuvenate the property market.

This year has brought encouraging news for rural landowners with changes to Class Q, Class R, Class A and Class B planning regulations. In this month's issue, Aidan Van de Weyer, Senior Planner at Lanpro in Cambridge, guides you through the new legislation that allows landowners to diversify buildings and create new housing without needing planning permission – an enticing prospect for many. Turn to page 12 to read more.

Additionally, we feature an insightful discussion with Paul Testa, Director of HEM Architects and Retrofitting Expert for the Homebuilding & Renovating Shows, on the differences between prefabricated and traditional construction methods on page 34. Plus, Andy Carr, Group COO and Managing Director of Guncast, shares expert tips on designing a pool that enhances your property's aesthetic while providing a refreshing retreat on page 36. Meanwhile, on page 38, William Durrant, Owner and Director of Herringbone, explains how to transform understairs cupboards from awkward, underutilised spaces into functional and stylish features.

I hope you enjoy this issue. Don’t forget, if you’re coming to the end of your self-build and would like us to feature your home as inspiration for other budding house-builders, then please do not hesitate to get in touch.
