January 2018

Welcome to the January edition of i-build magazine! This issue is packed with inspirational projects and products as well as useful advice for your self-build.

When taking the decision to build your own home, ultimately, many decisions come down to your vision and what you really want to get from your new abode. Building a home means a solution can be developed for any qualms you had about your previous home.

After spending 15 years living in and renovating a gorgeous Grade II Listed Georgian house, Gill and Stewart Siddall had enough of the expense of trying to keep their draughty home warm. So they decided to embark on a self-build journey inspired by the well-insulated and draught-free homes of Scandinavia.

Immediately won over by the efficiency of pre-manufactured self-builds, the Siddalls developed an ambitious plan to create an EnergyPlus house that would become an eyecatching masterpiece, nestled on a Perthshire hillside. On page 18, i-build gets to take a look at the little hillside haven the pair have created.

Elsewhere in the issue, we delve into the world of LED lighting for a London mews property on page 24 where Design Director at John Cullen Lighting, Luke Thomas, talks i-build through the project and on page 10 Dulux Trade’s Paul Dougherty discloses the best way to achieving the right finish.

I hope you enjoy this issue. Don’t forget, if you’re coming to the end of your self-build and would like us to feature your home as inspiration for other budding house-builders, then please do not hesitate to get in touch.
