Space, light and style

Roof lanterns can transform a dark area into one filled with natural light and ventilation.

Roof lanterns often form the focal point of a hardwood orangery and are usually positioned to define a particular area within a space such as over a kitchen island within a flat roof extension; to create a dining area within an open plan kitchen diner; to brighten a dark stairwell or landing, or to add natural light in a dark converted attic space. Wherever you choose, you can be sure that this design element will add a magical rush of free overhead light to transform your space.

Mumford & Wood has introduced a Garden Room collection featuring bespoke orangeries, conservatories and glass houses that will complement and coordinate with your windows and doors and the chosen architectural style of your project.

Mr and Mrs Murphy from Essex added a roof lantern: “We’d never have thought to include a roof lantern but it has opened up a very large space and flooding it with natural light. Our windows and doors are large but having overhead light has made a huge difference. It’s even nice to look down on from the top floor windows, so much better than looking at a pitched or flat roof.”

For self builders there’s no need to worry about the design detail of your roof lantern as Mumford & Wood will project manage your order from creation through to delivery. This is a free, no obligation consultation that will help you decide on the style you want: choose from spectacular pyramid lanterns, elegant octagons, or large rectangular hipped roof lanterns; with or without clerestory and decorative finials; your choice of glazing and glass options – Solar Control or anti-sun, and manual or automated ventilation units.

“It really is a very simple process, and a self-builder will make light work of this installation,” says Rob Stewart, sales director. “We feel very proud when we see the impact that our products can make on the internal aesthetics of a home, and the added elegance and value this addition will make. It’s a true investment and the whole family will benefit.”

Roof lanterns from Mumford & Wood arrive around six to ten weeks from sign off together with fully detailed working drawings and a fitting manual complete with trouble shooting scenarios. The company boasts a manufacturing pedigree of almost 60 years providing only British-made, high performance windows and doors that are manufactured exclusively from engineered, sustainably sourced timber – this is multi-layered timber sections with opposing grains that achieve ultimate strength, stability and longer maintenance cycles. When combined with modern methods of construction it ensures many of the problems associated with wood, such as warping and twisting, are eliminated.
