November 2016

Welcome to the November edition of i-build magazine! This issue is packed with inspirational projects and products as well as useful advice for your self-build.

According to the Structural Timber Association, when it comes to self-build projects, structural timber frame is the product of choice for more than 75% of the sector. Along with its eco-friendly benefits, timber also allows you to create a bespoke design, without compromising on quality.

To demonstrate the sector’s rising interest in oak frame, we visited Gordon and Joyce Perrie, who have recently completed a new-build in the charming Kent countryside. The couple capitalised on the strict planning restrictions imposed on them by using a stunning oak frame to add height to the property’s entry level. To find out more, turn to page 18.

Meanwhile, on page 40, English Heritage Buildings’ Darren Hook explains why contemporary homes have a lot to gain from an oak frame extension.

Elsewhere in this edition, Dulux Trade unveils the colour trends and palettes for the year ahead, Kingspan Klargester urges homeowners to get their drainage right or risk being prosecuted for causing pollution, and Eurobrick Cladding Systems explains how to choose the right brick cladding system for your own project.

As always, our pages are bursting with design inspiration for those of you who are nearing the completion of your build. On page 6, you will find an array of accessories perfect for those cold winter nights. Meanwhile on page 8, you can discover the elegance and charm of shabby chic interiors. From stools and sofas, right through to beds, this theme will perfectly suit any room.

I hope you enjoy this issue.
