June 2017

Welcome to the June edition of i-build magazine! This issue is packed with inspirational projects and products as well as useful advice for your self-build.

For many, the consideration of ageing is often an afterthought when it comes to the design and build of a home. However, future-proofing your home from the outset can eliminate any upcoming concerns, such as mobility and maintenance difficulties.

For second-time self-builder Henry Martin, catering for his future needs was on the agenda for his Cambridgeshire home, Tower Mill. The 19th century mill in the village of Little Downham has been radically transformed into a light-filled, clean-lined home. As the second self-build Henry has tackled, he was all too familiar with the selfbuild process and knew exactly what he wanted and how he wanted to achieve it. Disregarding the idea of “climbing up a ladder in 10 years’ time”, Henry specified building materials that would provide him with zero maintenance over the upcoming years. For more information on Tower Mill, turn to page 18.

Future-proofing your home not only applies to the exterior of your self-build, rather interior aspects must be considered also. On page 38, CEDIA advises how to ensure your smart home installations will stand the test of time whilst meeting your needs both now and in the future. Whilst on page 36, WeberHaus guides readers through its top tips on creating your home for the future.

Elsewhere in this issue, British Gypsum’s Gyproc Habito plasterboard has addressed crumbling plaster issues for an Oxfordshire family, Hayter and Toro keeps your lawn looking fresh with its top tips and Taylor Lane talks through the benefits of opting for timber frame.

I hope you enjoy this issue.
