Current issue

Welcome to the April edition of i-build magazine! This issue is packed with inspirational projects and products as well as useful advice for your self-build.

The usual sporadic weather of April is in full swing, alternating between sunny skies and sudden downpours. This unpredictability not only complicates the planning and onsite work of homebuilding and DIY projects but also draws attention to issues of water runoff and potential puddling in and around our homes.

In this issue, we sit down with Turrou Landesmann from Drainage Superstore to glean professional insights on selecting, installing and maintaining guttering systems. From understanding different gutter types and sizes to expert tips on maintenance, uncover all you need for a durable and efficient installation on page 28.

Elsewhere, we catch up with Rebecca Faust, a professional in property PR who typically admires the renovations and self-builds of others. However, when she stumbled upon an end-of-terrace, semi-detached Victorian flat ripe for renovation, she seized the opportunity. Flip to page 20 to read Rebecca's account of juggling a full-time job, a renovation project and jury duty, all while being four months pregnant at the project's outset.

In a positive development for self-builder Adam Tarver in Leicestershire, Studio Bark Architects has secured planning permission to create a water-powered home for him, enabling sustainable living off the land. Discover more about this remarkable and innovative design on page 14.

I hope you enjoy this issue. Don’t forget, if you’re coming to the end of your self-build and would like us to feature your home as inspiration for other budding house-builders, then please do not hesitate to get in touch. Alternatively, if you’re about to embark on your self-build journey and would be keen for us to document your progress, do get in contact.
